Peter Stern, Esq.

Peter S. Stern is an attorney practicing privately in Palo Alto, California. His practice emphasizes estate planning, probate, and elder law. He received his legal education at Stanford Law School, where he was a member of the class of 1981. His educational background includes degrees from the Institute of Political Studies, Paris (1960), Denison University, Granville, Ohio (1961), and Princeton University (1963). He is a past chair of the executive committee of the Estate Planning, Probate, and Trust Section of the Santa Clara County Bar Association (1993) and a member of the Board of Trustees of the Bar Association (1992-94). He is certified as a specialist in Estate Planning, Trust and Probate Law by the California Board of Legal Specialization of the State Bar of California. He was a member of the Executive Committee of the Trusts and Estates Section of the State Bar of California (TEXCOM) from 2000 to 2011,, and he chaired TEXCOM in 2007-8. He served on the Probate and Mental Health Advisory Committee of the Judicial Council of California from 2001 to 2007. He is a member of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC), where he chairs the Elder Law Committee. He lectures and writes frequently on topics involving conservatorships, elder law, special needs trusts, and Medi-Cal, and has contributed to California legislation and regulations in the areas of conservatorships and Medi-Cal.
