This presentation analyzes the legal guidelines and parameters of the Private Professional Fiduciary taking on the role as Petitioner in Conservatorship, Guardianship, Decedent Estates, and Trusts. In addition to the law, the discussion includes an analysis of the ethics rules applicable to fiduciaries and their attorneys when the fiduciary acts as the Petitioner. The law and ethics conversation includes real world examples of the practical complications and risks which may arise when a professional fiduciary acts as Petitioner in a court proceeding.

Jeff Marvan is the founder of MarvanLaw, A.P.C. A 1999 graduate of the U.C. Davis, King Hall School of Law, Jeff started his career as a criminal public defender for Yolo County. Jeff established MarvanLaw, A.P.C. in 2006. The firm focuses on probate litigation, trust litigation, estate planning, guardianships, and conservatorships in Los Angeles. The firm represents professional fiduciaries.

Jeff is a member of the Beverly Hills Bar Association, the Los Angeles County Bar Association, the Probate Volunteer Panel, and the Los Angeles County Probate Settlement Officer Program. He is part of the Los Angeles County Bar Association’s Trust and Estate subcommittee responsible for helping organize continuing education focused on trust and estate subjects. Jeff is currently the business representative of his local neighborhood council. From 2012 to 2014, Jeff served as an associate professor at Glendale University College of Law, teaching trusts and estates.

Yevgeny L. Belous is a partner at Nielsen & Rogers LLP, an Elder Law firm located in Woodland Hills, California. Mr. Belous practices exclusively in the areas of trusts and estates, conservatorships, guardianships, estate planning and probate litigation. A large portion of Mr. Belous’ practice is devoted to representing professional fiduciaries in court proceedings and private trusts.

Yevgeny L. Belous was born in 1983 in Kiev, Ukraine. He is fluent in Russian and graduated in 2005 from the University of California Santa Cruz, majoring in Economics and Business Management. Mr. Belous completed his J.D. from Thomas Cooley Law School in 2009 and was admitted to the State Bar if California in 2009. In law school, he was a senior intern at the Sixty Plus Elder Law Clinic, which exposed him to a wide variety of legal issues facing the elderly. Since becoming an attorney, he has continued upon this path practicing exclusively in the areas of trusts and estates, conservatorships, guardianships, and probate litigation.
