American Federation for Aging Research Since 1981, (AFAR) has helped scientists begin and further careers in aging research and geriatric medicine. Our mission is to promote healthier aging through biomedical research.

The Association for Gerontology in Higher Education (AGHE) was established in 1974 to advance gerontology as a field of study in institutions of higher learning.

The Gerontological Society of America To provide researchers, educators, practitioners, and policy makers with expanded opportunities to understand, advance, integrate and use basic and applied research on aging to improve the quality of life during processes of aging.

The National Institute on Aging (NIA), one of the 25 institutes and centers of the National Institutes of Health, leads a broad scientific effort to understand the nature of aging and to extend the healthy, active years of life.

American Society on Aging a professional organization working towards enhancing the knowledge and skills of those working with older adults and their families.

Administration on Aging - A great source for information on aging, including links to useful sources.

British Society for Research on Ageing - Promotes research to understand the causes and effects of the ageing process.

National Institute on Aging - The National Institute on Aging (NIA) is one of the National Institutes of Health. The NIA promotes healthy aging by conducting and supporting biomedical, social, and behavioral research and public education. British Society of Gerontology - promotes the understanding of human aging and later life.

Novartis Foundation for Gerontological Research - Supports education and innovation in geriatric medicine, general practice, supportive care and patients management to prevent dysfunction in later life.

Huffington Center on Aging - The Web site for Huffington Center on Aging at Baylor College of Medicine.

The Institute for Health & Aging - The Institute fosters multidisciplinary collaborative research, education, and public service in the fields of aging and health.

American Federation for Aging Research is America's leading private organization supporting new investigators conducting biomedical aging research.

Health and Retirement Study - The ongoing study on the work to retirement transitions.

UCLA Geronet - University of California in Los Angeles' resource bank on health and aging.

Through renowned educational programs, publications and information and training resources, ASA members tap into the knowledge of the largest network of professionals in the field 

American Geriatrics Society (AGS) is the premier professional organization of health care providers dedicated to improving the health and well-being of all older adults.

American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging The American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging (AAHSA) represents not-for-profit organizations dedicated to providing high-quality health care, housing and services to the nation’s elderly.

The American Geriatrics Society - The Web page of the American Geriatrics Society, an organization of professionals in the field of geriatrics. GeroWeb - An online resource for researchers, educators, practitioners, and others interested in aging and older individuals.

AARP - The nation's leading organization for people age 50 and older

National Family Caregivers Association (NFCA). NFCA is the only national, charitable organization dedicated to making life better for all of America's family caregivers.

Alzheimer's Association - A good resource for persons seeking general information, caregiver resources, and medical information about Alzheimer's disease.

Alzheimer's Association, Northern Virginia Chapter - Founded by caregivers to assist families touched by Alzheimer's disease.

Alzheimer's Disease Education and Referral Center - The National Institute of Aging's page on Alzheimer's disease and related dementias.

AHCPR's World Wide Web site - The Agency for Health Care Policy and Research features information to help consumers and their health care practitioners make informed health care decisions and research on what works best in health care.

American Health Care Association - Provides consumer information on services, financing, public policy issues concerning nursing facilities, assisted living and subacute care.

National Institutes of Health - The National Institutes of Health is the principal biomedical research agency of the United States Government.

American Medical Association is a partnership of physicians and their professional association dedicated to promoting the art and science of medicine and the betterment of public health.

The American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry (AAGP) is a national association representing and serving its members and the field of geriatric psychiatry. LCAO - Leadership Council of Aging Organizations is a coalition of national non-profit organizations concerned with the well-being of America's older population and committed to representing their interests in the policy-making arena.

Your CSN is your key to accessing your personal tax information online. Only with your social security number and CSN can you use the many secure online services offered by the Franchise Tax Board. (Note: FTB will issue a new Customer Service Number to every taxpayer each calendar year. The number is only valid during the year for which it is assigned.)

*Note Form 843 Federal, although you can use this for the State, they (sometimes, you can never tell) prefer just a letter requesting an abatement of interest and or penalties.

Who are your Tax Professionals
CTEC Registered Tax Preparers (CRTPs): This designation is used by those persons who has successfully complete a 60 hour course approved for qualifying education, obtain a certificate of completion from CTEC, and obtain a tax preparer bond. They may not represent taxpayers in audits, collections, or appeals, except in limited capacity for audits under a Power of Attorney.

Enrolled Agents: Those persons who have passed a 2-day written exam on taxes administered by the IRS or worked for the IRS for five or more years in various positions use this designation. An Enrolled Agent is able to represent taxpayers before all administrative levels of the IRS for audits, collections, and appeals. The authority of the IRS licenses an Enrolled Agent.

Certified Public Accountants: Accountants who pass a uniform examination in accounting and auditing and satisfy work experience, statutory and licensing requirements of the State(s) in which they practice are certified public accountants. A CPA is also to represent taxpayers before the IRS.
